You’ve signed up for pinterest and now what to do you do?  What Internet marketing strategies can you apply to Pinterest?  How can you use it for your small business or start up?

1)  FIrst, lets figure out who you will be on Pinterest.....

·      Maven - Someone who post images from somewhere else on the internet

·      Connectors – Repin others images on Pinterest

·      Showcasers – Pin their own photos from their own website

Based on recent research the most effects strategy is Maven, followed by Connectors and finally Showercasers.

In my experience I break down my activity by:

50% Maven

30% connector

20% showcasers

Why?

50% Maven.  You want to be actively seeking out or uploading new and interesting images.  The result of this is something new for the Pinterest community, which will lead to repins and promotion for your business.

30% connectors.  You want to show others that you support their images and that you appreciate their photos. This also alerts the individual you repined, which is again, promotion for you business.

20% showcasers.  It's better for people to seek out your photos on your website than you always uploading your own.  The rules are similar to Pinterest as the are for Facebook and Twitter.  Don’t over promote one area while not contribution to other areas.  Nevertheless, posting your images is a great way to promote your blog, products, or services.  Just don’t over do it.

2)  If you’re a one man army, or even if your not.  Promote all categories of your life.  The things you enjoy;

  • Hobbies,
  • Favorite brands,
  • Favorite travel destinations etc.
This provides Pinterest users as well as your followers insight into your personal life and a better understanding of who you are.  As well, it broadens your reach as you may be targeting a different niche of consumers you may never would of thought of before.

3)    Twitter -  If you are “pinning” something, you might as well tweet it too.  Be efficient and get the most out of your time.

Send some time building your boards.  Surf the web and pin images that relate to your business as well as images that don't relate to your business.  You never know who will repin that next photo, which could lead to more traffic, leads and sales.

Enjoy.  Good Luck!
