The web is a massive catalogue.  There are millions of different pages offering various  products and services.  How do you get through to your buyers?  How do you use similar off-line marketing/selling tactics for your on-line store?  What do you do as an online marketer?

A study done at www.scanalert.com has insight into "Behavioral Patters of online shoppers" and states that on average, buyers delay the online purchasing process by:

•   19 hours, from the time the buyer visits your website until the purchase,

•   20% delaying the purchase for over 3 days.

•   35% took more than 12 hours to make a decision

•   14% took anywhere to a week to make a decision.

This basically means that buyers have the power.  They're able to search among various competitors before making a final decision.  If your product or service is not:

•   Competitive with price

•   Unique

•   Or a well-know brand

You may have difficulties competing in that given industry.

So what do you do?

First, you must develop yourself as an industry leader in that given industry.

•   Have a professional, well designed functional website

•   Be active online.  Have a twitter account, Facebook page, and blog.

However, to make your buyers stay on your page and purchase your product or service you must be offering something that the competition is not.  Such as unique information, promotions, discounts, or special offers.

For example, my company was selling a product with a 50% discount for the month of may.  We reminded and promoted this discount to our buyers, which resulted in increase sales.  As well, the discount increased awareness and sales for the proceeding months.

( Repeat purchases, purchase of other products)

So, for your next promotion:

1. Give it a time frame, example) A month.  This places a time constraint into your buyers mind and will result in a call to action.

2. A special discount/promotion that your competition is not offering.

3. Display and highlight the promotion on your website.  Mention it in your social media accounts; however, don't over do it.  You may lose followers = (

....and follow though with your agreement.  After the given time period is up, return the price back to normal.

This is just one example.  Can you think of others?  If so, please tell me suggestions.

Overall, you have seconds to capture your audience and convert them into a sale.  Be different, memorable, and unique so the next time your buyer is browsing around and taking days to make a decision, they will choose you over the competition.
